About Maria

Maria Neckam has taught masterclasses all over the United States, Canada and Europe and has more than 15 years of one-on-one experience, teaching students of the prestigious New School in NYC as well as private students at her studio in Brooklyn and online.

Maria has been a judge at music competitions, such as “The Jimmy Woode Jazz Awards” in Italy and a featured clinician at Loyola University (New Orleans), Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, New York), Valencia High School (Los Angeles), University of Toronto (Canada), Tuscia in Jazz (Italy) and Amsterdam Conservatory (Netherlands).

An accomplished singer and songwriter herself, Maria has performed internationally in a wide range of styles and genres - from jazz to indie pop, new music and indian crossover to rock. She has backed neo-soul queen Erykah Badu and shared the stage with the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra at BAM in NYC. She has performed with her own band at many festivals and venues around the world, including Winter Jazz Fest (NYC), Copenhagen Jazz Festival (Denmark), Tuscia in Jazz Festival (Italy), Le Poisson Rouge, Joe’s Pub at The Public Theatre, Melkweg (Netherlands), Porgy and Bess (Austria), Jamboree (Spain), to name a few.

Maria has recorded over 20 albums as a leader and featured artist. She splits her time between New York City and Vienna, Austria, and also travels regularly.
